SOBA BMC held its Annual General Meeting in Buea with over 120 members in attendance, reviewing the year's achievements and charting the course for 2024.
The SOBA Buea Chapter held its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 9th March 2024, at the Ayaba Hotel Conference Hall, Buea. The event brought together over 120 registered members, representing one of the best-attended AGMs in the chapter's recent history.
The outgoing executive presented a comprehensive report on activities carried out during the 2023 financial year, highlighting the successful renovation of the Form One dormitory block at Saint Joseph's College Sasse, the award of twelve scholarships to deserving students, and the establishment of a new welfare fund for members in need.
Financial reports presented by Treasurer Benedict Fon showed the chapter in a healthy financial position, with funds raised during the 2023 gala dinner exceeding targets by 18%. The auditor's report confirmed compliance with financial regulations and best practices.
A spirited discussion followed, with members contributing insights on how to deepen engagement with younger alumni, expand outreach to Sobans in the diaspora, and increase the chapter's contribution to the college's development plan.
Elections were held for vacant positions on the executive committee, with several incumbents returned unopposed and two new faces joining the leadership team. The meeting closed with a vote of confidence in the incoming executive and a call for unity among all Sobans in Buea.
