SOBA

History

Explore the story of our brotherhood — from the hills of Sasse to the world.

Our Origins

Saint Joseph's College Sasse stands as one of Cameroon's most distinguished educational institutions, founded in 1939 by the Mill Hill Missionaries. Nestled in the lush highlands of the South West Region, the college has for decades been a beacon of excellence, faith, and brotherhood.

The SOBA (Sasse Old Boys Association) Buea Chapter was founded in the late 1970s by a dedicated group of alumni who recognized the need to maintain the bonds of brotherhood forged within the walls of Saint Joseph's College Sasse. What began as informal gatherings of old boys in Buea gradually evolved into a structured association committed to alumni welfare, community development, and support for the alma mater.

Growth and Development

Through the 1980s and 1990s, SOBA BMC grew exponentially as successive generations of Sobans settled in Buea and the South West Region. Annual general meetings, social events, and fundraising activities became hallmarks of the chapter. The association established a scholarship fund to support underprivileged students at Saint Joseph's College Sasse, a tradition that continues to this day.

In the 2000s, SOBA BMC undertook several landmark infrastructure projects at the college, including the renovation of dormitories, construction of classroom blocks, and the provision of library resources. These contributions have been pivotal in maintaining the college's status as a premier institution of learning.

A Brotherhood Beyond Borders

Today, SOBA BMC maintains active connections with sister chapters across Cameroon and around the world, forming part of a global network of Sobans united by shared values of integrity, service, and excellence. Our annual conventions, fundraising galas, and community outreach programs reflect the enduring spirit of Soban brotherhood.
