The SOBA BMC Cultural Night brought together Sobans from across the South West Region for an unforgettable evening of music, storytelling, and celebration of our shared heritage.
The SOBA Buea Chapter held its highly anticipated 2024 Cultural Night on Friday, 1st November 2024, at the Buea Congress Hall. The event, themed "Our Roots, Our Pride: Celebrating the Soban Spirit," drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 300 Sobans, their families, and invited guests for an unforgettable evening of culture, fellowship, and entertainment.
The programme featured performances by alumni musicians and poets, a photo and memorabilia exhibition tracing the history of Saint Joseph's College Sasse from its founding in 1939 to the present day, and a nostalgic storytelling segment in which senior alumni shared their most treasured memories from their years at Sasse.
A highlight of the evening was the "Wall of Fame" unveiling — a tribute to distinguished Soban alumni who have made exceptional contributions to their fields and to Cameroon. This year's inductees included a former cabinet minister, a renowned physician, and a celebrated jurist, all graduates of Saint Joseph's College Sasse.
The Cultural Night also served as a fundraising platform for the new classroom block project, with a live auction and raffle raising an additional 4.1 million FCFA. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling for the event to become an annual fixture in the SOBA BMC calendar.
