Rest in Peace

Light a Candle

With the passing of Honourable Augustine Mbeng on Valentine's Day, 2022, Cameroon lost one of its most distinguished legal minds and the Soban family lost a giant. For over fifty years, his life was a testament to the power of education, the nobility of public service, and the enduring strength of Soban brotherhood. Augustine's journey from the halls of Saint Joseph's College Sasse to the chambers of the National Assembly was one of relentless intellectual achievement and unfailing dedication to justice. As a magistrate, he was revered for his learning and his fairness. As a lawmaker, he championed the interests of his constituency with vigor and integrity. Yet through all the accolades and achievements, Augustine Mbeng never forgot where he came from. He returned to SOBA BMC meetings with the same enthusiasm as a young old boy, and he mentored generations of younger Sobans with patience and generosity. To his family, his colleagues, and all who walked with him on this journey, SOBA BMC extends its deepest sympathies. His legacy is written not only in the annals of Cameroonian law and politics, but in the lives of every Soban he inspired. Go well, Honourable. You served with honour.
